AI does not enter an empty classroom
Henri Isaac reminds us that AI arrives in an education system already under strain: large groups, little individual coaching time and high employer expectations. The question is not whether AI belongs in the classroom, but which task we hand over to it.
Three major shifts
- From transmission to coaching. When content is available everywhere, the trainer's value moves to diagnosis, motivation and practice design.
- From grades to evidence. AI produces continuous data on learner activity, opening the door to formative rather than punitive assessment.
- From theory to practice. The most demanded skills, including speaking, are built through repeated situational practice.
The safeguards
Three conditions matter: transparency about what the model does, protection of learner data, and a human decision on anything related to guidance or certification.
What about languages?
Languages are the most immediately transformed field: conversation is repeatable, contextual and measurable. It is also where the practice gap is widest inside organizations.
